NFL PRO PERSONNEL GRADING SCALE
The following grading scale is the one predominantly used by NFL teams. It is designed to separate classes of players and skill and athletic traits of players. The grades are only reflective of what the player is currently--not what he was or can be.ASCENDING OR DESENDING PLAYERS ARE DESIGNATED NEXT TO THE COLOR GRADE IN SOME INSTANCES. ASCENDING PLAYERS ARE GETTING BETTER WHILE DESCENDING PLAYERS ARE DECLING USUALLY DUE TO AGE. ASCENDING PLAYERS ARE DESIGNATED WITH A ^ DESCENDING PLAYERS DESIGNATED WITH A -

BLUEThe best. The top-line players in the league. Blue players make the plays that are the difference in close games. They have superior talent, and consistently make big plays.
REDRed players win for you. They have starter-type production. Top-line Reds are usually Blues in either the running or passing game but fall short in the other. Red players are impact players and start on contending teams.
PURPLEPurple players are players you can win with. They are usually Red in some areas and can match up with some Reds but overall fall a little short of Reds. They are solid starters who will usually get the job done at least in some areas. An NFL scouting axiom is to not play anyone who is below purple.
The three types of players listed above are what a club must have to win. Any player or trait below Purple must be upgraded or the club does not match up in that area, creating a mismatch in the opponent's favor in most cases.
ORANGEOrange players have back-up production only. They do not match up versus the Reds and are dominated by the Blues. An Orange can make your squad if he is a Blue or high Red special teamer. An NFL scouting axiom is to replace your Oranges.
GREENGreens are young players worth keeping because they have upside potential (the ability to get better with development). You cannot afford to play them much this year. You prefer to have Greens more than Oranges in the long term but it is a question of how may you can afford to carry on your team.
BLACKInjured veterans who did not produce much or at all this year but must be kept alive for when they return healthy based on previous ability and skill level.
YELLOWPlayers lacking ability and skills to contribute even as a backup OR a player who is injury-prone OR a player who is lacking character. They are not worth developing for any or all of these reasons.
